FROM TREE TO TABLE
The tree was always something special for us. He could be seen from everywhere by his height. He radiated calmness and was also the tomb of all our small animals. Beautiful!” says Alexandra Dapont from Vorarlberg. “When I was a child, he stood alone in our meadow. Gradually, the outside was built around and the branches were cut again and again. Finally, the tree posed a danger to the surrounding houses and had to be felled.”
Via the Internet, Alex Dapont became aware of the company Hugo Kämpf in Spessart – with the slogan “We are oak”. Hugo Kämpf was awarded the contract to buy the mighty oak tree.
Large tree felling skills and heavy equipment were needed around the tree
to cut, recover and charge.
When I was a child, the tree stood alone in our meadow
A large horizontal band saw with a passage of 2 meters was necessary to saw the tree in. All the saw cladding had to be dismantled for this purpose – for the incision of table tops with a width of more than one metre and a length of 4.7 metres
A magnificent tribal image came to light. Hundreds of years of life history of an ancient oak. You can see, for example, that grandfather Dapont had to saw off wide branches in the 60s and 70s to make room for the advancing houses of the growing housing estate. These signs of the times are expressive in the root image.
After two years of gentle pre-drying under the roof at Hugo Kämpf in the Franconian Thüngen, the modern vacuum drying followed to final humidity of 10 – 12%.
Perfectly dried is now hand-sanded, filled and fine-tuned with Legno oil to bring this unique family tree to life in the form of a new table top. No cutting, no gluing is necessary – the natural form remains. Each piece is unique – created by nature.
