What is a rift cut?

The rift cut, also called radial cut or mirror cut, is a special way of cutting wood. The rift cut only produces planks with vertical growth rings, which result in high strength and a uniform tensile and shrinkage ratio.

The advantages of rift cut

The advantage of this rift cut grade is its stability and the simple, straight wood structure. The result is planks and boards with a beautiful grain.

Another major advantage of producing rift-cut planks is that they are much less susceptible to cracking and are therefore very suitable for outdoor use. Only rift boards can withstand even strong sunlight or strong winds without cracking.

To summarize in simple words

Imagine a tree cake. Normally you cut it into round slices, but with rift cutting you cut it right through the middle so that the colored rings become straight strips. You do the same with wood. This wood is particularly sturdy and looks great.
