FROM TREE TO TABLE – THE SEARCH FOR THE RIGHT OAK TREE
We are nature – A large oak tree from the Spessart grows for several hundred years before its trunk measures more than one meter in diameter. These tree giants in our region are very rare and are not included in the forestry harvest plan. The priority is to leave these trees as natural regeneration and, of course, as natural monuments at their original location.
RECOVERING A GIANT TREE
It is always a challenging undertaking to recover one of these giant trees from mostly inaccessible terrain. This can sometimes take several days.
WE CREATE TABLETOPS – THE SELECTION
For our character tabletops, we deliberately use extraordinary, lively pieces. The natural growths such as knots, cracks and color variations create the special characteristic. For the production of the tabletops, an extra-large bandsaw is necessary, only in this way can we saw these tree giants into slabs with exact cutting quality. Heavy equipment is required here to manipulate the colossi weighing up to 9 tons.
HOW OUR UNIQUE LIVE-EDGE TABLETOPS ARE CREATED
Perfectly dried, each slab is sanded by hand, filled, and finely polished with colorless Legno oil. Only in this way does the silky matt surface with its unique feel emerge. No cutting or gluing is necessary - the natural shape remains.
Of course, it also takes love, creativity, and many years of experience to bring these tree giants back to life in the form of new live-edge tabletops.

An eye-catcher for every home, office or public space – counters or conference tables. In our opinion, every piece of wood is unique. The tree shows its origin, the soil, the weather, the events with its trunk image and documents the time. Our goal is to recognize and highlight the special. Without cuts or gluing, to create unique pieces of furniture from very large pieces of wood.

WE LIVE TRADITION – WE ARE OAK
At the foot of the Schlossberg, on the grounds of the old Schlossmühle in Thüngen, the "Schneidmühle zu Thüngen" was developed in 1875. In the summer of the same year, the first oak trunk from the Gramschatzer forest was driven into the splitting gate - powered by the mechanics of water power. The company has been family-owned ever since.
Oak from sustainable forestry
The oaks, on which the company soon specialized, come mostly from local forests. For our sawmill in Thüngen, we only select high-quality woods today. Moreover, all our woods and wood products are demonstrably from ecologically, socially and sustainably managed forests. As one of the first German oak suppliers, we have been carrying the FSC® 100% seal since 2004. The oak is the most important tree species in Germany, not only for sustainable forestry. It is the national tree, the sacred tree of our Germanic ancestors, an important symbol that can also be found on coats of arms and coins.
